Whitestone Shipbrokers in collaboration with MASSER Afrique organised a
training workshop on Carriage of Goods by all Modes of Transport from 17 th to
18 th August 2022 at Hotel Joecarl, Tema, Ghana.

The workshop witnessed participants from diverse backgrounds such as mining,
insurance, logistics, shipping, governance, among others. Participants were from
AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, Amaris Terminal, Pacific International Lines (PIL),
Hollard Insurance, Donewell Insurance, Olam Cocoa Processing, Onshore Offshore
Solutions Ghana Limited, Aftrap Shipping Services, Shotto Logistics, Strategic
Clearing Agency, Ghana Shippers Authority and Municipal Assemblies. The
geographical span of these participants spread across Upper East, Upper West,
Western, Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions.


The facilitators of the workshop were Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Mbiah, a private legal
practitioner and consultant, Frank Tony Eshun FICS, the Chief Executive Officer of
Sealand Africa Group and chairman of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers,
West Africa Branch and Gertrude Adwoa Ohene-Asienim FICS Executive Director
of Whitestone Shipbrokers Ghana Limited and Membership Committee
Chairperson, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London.

The topics discussed included Understanding Contract of Carriage by all Modes of
Transport; International Conventions Governing Carriage of Goods by all Modes of
Transport; the Bill of Lading and its role in International Trade; Practical steps for
Cargo Clearance; Demurrage and Detention.


The Workshop was climaxed with a trip to the Port of Tema (Meridian Port
Services – MPS) where participants were given a general overview of the MPS Port
Expansion Project by Mr. Charles Osafo, Assistant Manager for Stakeholder
Engagements – Operations. The participants were then taken round the Port to
familiarise themselves with port operations and terminal management.


On behalf of the participants, Reyna Adusei from Strategic Clearing Agency,
expressed her appreciation to the organisers for taking the initiative to organise
such an insightful workshop.

Whitestone Shipbrokers Ghana Limited, in collaboration with MasserAfrique organised a three-day workshop on marine insurance for players in the Ghanaian insurance industry.

The workshop took place at the Airport West Hotel from 18th to 20th May, 2022. The participants included key stakeholders from the insurance industry including representatives from underwriting, claims, operations and marketing departments of various insurance and brokerage firms. There were also representatives from the insurance industry regulator, the National Insurance Commission.

The participants were taken through key discussion topics including the overview of Marine Insurance market and legal framework, underwriting requirements for Hull and Machinery Insurance, Cargo Insurance, Cargo claims as well as Fraudulent Claims.

The facilitators of the workshop were Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Mbiah, a private legal practitioner and consultant, Dr Meixian Song, Editor of Lloyd’s Shipping and Trade Law, Gertrude Adwoa Ohene-Asienim, Chartered Shipbroker, Lecturer and Maritime Consultant and Elijah Owusu Agyeman, a Chartered Insurer and Loss Adjuster.

The participants received a certificate of participation and pen drives containing the presentation slides.

The participants of the workshop were overall satisfied with the training, and represented by Mrs. Adelaide Fiavor, Head of Broker Relations Department of SIC Insurance expressed her appreciation to the orgarnisers on behalf of the participants.
